Trent Boult, an action of beauty!

Updated: Oct 8, 2021

One of the best all formats bowlers at the moment ranked #1 in ODI and #14 in Test. Always feels like something is going to happen when he has the ball! But why/how? Here’s our quick analysis on Trent Boult.

Firstly no bowler is the same, that’s the beauty of cricket but there are some key fundamentals that all bowlers should take from Boult.

- Run-Up - Smooth and consistent, build momentum towards the crease, seems EFFORTLESS. - Jump & Gather - This connects the momentum you have built in your run-up to your delivery of the ball. Boult’s is compact, he manages to keep his arms in the ‘CYLINDER’ of his body. - Wrist Position - STRONG wrist that is cocked firmly behind the ball. Allows Boult to bowl both in-swing and out-swing. - Delivery - BRACED front leg, in Boult’s case his right leg. This allows him to transfer the moment from the run-up into the delivery of the ball with maximum effect.

Most importantly we need to make sure that our actions are SAFE and REPEATABLE! Once we have that sorted then see if you can tweak some of your fundamentals. Thoughts Pace Journal and Bowlstrong?

There is no surprise that Trent Boult is 4th on all-time wickets for Blackcaps!

Thanks Cricket Suuce for the video, a great little montage!
